E5 in Denver Post

The Denver Post has a writeup on "E5", a film that I contributed a song to.

The article is mostly about how the moviemaking industry is growing in Denver. I foresee this trend growing, there are a lot of people moving to Denver from Los Angeles and it makes sense that they would want to bring their work here as well.

Mac Mini based Synth

A modular synth with the brains of a Mac Mini?

As technology gets cheaper, we are starting to see uber-powerful gizmos like this.

Funny, this "synth" could have more processing power than the computer I currently use to record with.

40 million?

40 million dollars.

$40,000,000.00

That's how much Bush's inauguration party cost. The worse the reality of the world is, the more you have to spend on propaganda I guess.

Judy Bachrach slams Bush on Fox news

You have to love those live feeds. I'm sure the producers at Fox would have censored that if they knew it was going to happen. What ever happened to the days of "unbiased reporting" and credibility?

Forbid someone isn't blindly accepting the Bush administration's rhetoric as gospel.

How can the White House preach about the virtues of freedom and democracy when the people leading our country are only interested in lining their own pockets?

The booth gets some use

I'm recording someone doing a monologue this week, time to brush the dust off the vocal recording mics.

It has seriously bothered me that they haven't been used since November. To refresh the memory, my then new band post-Deviant broke up around Halloween. The last tracks laid down in the vocal booth was sometime in mid-October. I've done some sound tests with the mics in there since then but nothing that's going on a release (mostly me just fucking around with recording techniques).

Now I have all these new tricks I want to try out but no one to try them on. It's not for lack of music production work, I'm busier than ever, it's just that it's all instrumental or the vocals are getting recorded elsewhere!

Oh my

I think I've died and gone to heaven.

The motherlode!

Finally, now i won't have to drive 2 hours and then back 2 hours to get decent Korean supplies. I'm a little wary of mail order kimchi, the place I go to usually has it made fresh, but I've give anything a try once.

Finally out of the shop

Just got my baby back from the shop. My Les Paul had been out of whack for a few months and I finally took it in to get worked on. The intonation was going flat above the 12th fret. I had that problem after I had done a thorough cleaning on it over the summer.

Seems the years of sweaty fingers, vans, basements and what not have caused the neck to twist a bit so I had the tech adjust the neck and do some fretwork. We'll see how guitar handles itself tonight, I have some writing to do that I've put off until I got this guitar back (I never do lead work on my other guitars).

VST synth goodies

I've found some new VST instruments I want to get. I just found Arturia's VST versions of the ARP 2600 and the Moog Modular

While I see soft synths are getting better and more expressive, I still love my old hardware synths. One of my mainstays has quirks to it that are probably caused by the time I spilled beer on the circuit board.

Software synths are better for people on a budget but you have to have a computer powerful enough to run all the little synths and also do your recording and sequencing. You could also go the route of running one computer just for synths and slaving it to your sequencing PC.

I use the occasional software synth here and there but right now my studio's machine doesn't like running a bunch of synths on top of 30 or 40 audio tracks...maybe it's time to upgrade.

Oh the horror

I just started preliminary discussions to score a short 30 minute horror film, apparently people like using my music for scary movies. I'll need to come up with some pieces this week to show to him, he's writing the script based around the emotions of the music.
