I’ll be performing two shows in the upcoming weeks. I hadn’t planned on playing out at all until the new album was ready but these are both for worthy causes.
I’m a bit nervous as I haven’t played out since January of 2004. Divine Reich rehearsed for 6 months and had shows booked but we never actually played them.
Practice has been like meeting up with old friends and making some new ones. We’ll have a couple of new songs in the set and some old favorites.

Can you believe it?
There was a time when I was obssessed with Rebecca Romijn…actually it was June of last year. I had recently watched the De Palma film, Femme Fatale. At the time was very obsessed with film noir, neo-noir and anything relating to it. Now mind you, I’ve never really had a thing for the now ex-Mrs. Stamos. Blonde model types were never really my thing. But for a few days in a row I kept having weird dreams about me as some sort of scientist in the future. I had worked on building the perfect android woman to be my companion, who for some reason, ended up looking like Rebecca Romijn. In my dreams, I had built this android and she was real in everyway. I was in love with her but the feeling of love was beyond her understanding, it was something this android could never experience. She could talk and walk like a regular person but never have real feelings. This creation of mine had ambition built into it’s programming and left to make her way in the world and to be adored by others for she felt nothing for her creator or anyone else.
For some reason this dream always made me feel sad. It gave me inspiration to write a futuristic song about obsession. I came up with the music for it and revealed my idea to Kristian, who thought it would fit perfectly with his own tale of obsession. This was the basis behind the Divine Reich song “Hardkore”.

While we’ve been working independently on new material for the next album, Deviant had our first “unofficial” rehearsal last night. Unofficial because London wasn’t there. The first “official” one is next week, where we’ll brush off some classic material and work on new songs.
It was interesting, I’ve never been one for “jamming” per se but I had a good time and we got some ideas demoed. I’ll take what we came up with and flesh out the ideas some more with some drums and synths.
It was a bit of a different experience for me, in the past I’ve always come up with the music first and then we just started practicing them at rehearsals once they were fully fleshed out and recorded. That was the case with the 2002-2003 Deviant material and the Divine Reich album I recorded last year.
For Absenta the majority of the music was recorded before Daisho had joined the band. It was just London and I hanging out together at my old apartment on Capital Hill, drinking absinthe, and coming up with ideas. This time he’s getting involved more creatively and we’re coming up with things together. Since we live at the same place it’s easy for me to work up a drum beat and then shoot it over the file server for him to playback up in his room and work on ideas for basslines, progressions, etc.
All in all, I think the creative floodgates have finally opened on all fronts.

I just finished the website for the my friend Kristian. He was the singer in the band Divine Reich with me but he also has a comic book series that he’s independently publishing; also named “Divine Reich”.
You can check out the site at www.divinereich.com.

Just got home.
Went out to Netherworld and met up with Eddie and his newly found bass player. I’m going to be producing and programming drums for his new rockabilly/punk/industrialish band. For those of you not from Denver, Eddie Suicide was previously a bass player in the short-lived Divine Reich and roadie/guitar tech for me in Deviant. I slated them some studio time next Saturday, should be interesting as it’s definately a new genre for me to work in. I’ve never recording a stand-up bass before so we’ll see how that works out.
Next, Jolene and I went to Wave. Music was good, Cari and Suzanne looked fucking amazing tonight, I wish I had brought my camera. Kristian was supposed to meet up with me but the bastard still hadn’t shown up by midnight so I grew impatient and left.

My new band Divine Reich is no more. We had significant progress; nearly an album’s worth of material finished and recorded, shows lined up, photos and promotional material made, merchandise, and some record label meetings set up in November.
Sometimes things fall apart no matter how hard you try and keep it together.
So those of you who got to hear the new tracks, I’m glad, but they won’t appear again. Those shows I’ve mentioned to people we will not be performing.
I’m going to concentrate on building something new (again). It’s got to work at some point right?

We had a mix of our song, “Hardkore” debut at the Church last night. The crowd on the dancefloor seemed pretty responsive.
We’ll be playing our first live show this month, I’ll post details soon enough (we have the possiblity of two shows in the same week so I’m not sure which one will be “first” yet).
